Felting with Jan Stuart
Wet Felt a Hat at Spring Retreat
The Retreat Felting Session will feature this classes with Jan Stuart:
Saturday all day and Sunday morning

In this class you will go through the process of hand wet felting a beautiful broad brim hat. On the first day we will lay out the fiber, lightly felt, learn to use a resist to create a large felted pocket. On day two we will full the pocket, which is shrinking it by rubbing and rolling. Once is it sufficiently shrunk, I will have a variety of hat molds to choose from and you will stretch and shape your hat. You’ll learn the hatter’s knot, tips and tricks for finding everyday items to shape a hat on and ideas for decorating with hat bands and/or needle felting. Llama/alpaca fiber will be provided for a finely felted soft to the touch hat.
About Jan Stuart

I have been working with fiber most of my life but especially since the purchase of my first 2 llamas in 1992. My farm was Moonlight Llamas for over 30 years and during that time I made and sold many llama products at S & W Festivals, llamas shows, Montpelier farmer’s market and many craft shows. Felt hats were my primary product. Our herd of northern Vermont llama owners learned how to felt hats together and then I went on to take a class from master fiber artist Beth Beede. My craft booth partner, Lindsay Chandler of Northern VT Llama Co , and I did many felting demos and classes at these venues and llama conferences up and down the east coast.
At this point in my life due to life events, I have transitioned my business to teaching classes in my barn slowly being turned into a craft space and felting custom shrouds for natural burials. greenmountainburialshrouds.com
