Vermont Fibershed is an Evolving Project

We understand that while Vermont has a strong and growing natural fiber industry, we are a small state and many of our producers and consumers will continue to rely on resources from out of state. A Fibershed is generally delineated as a specific geographical region. Vermont Fibershed is not yet ready to define its borders. Many of our producers have long-standing ties with processors and suppliers in other parts of the country. It is important that we honor those relationships while building a stronger regional fiber producing and processing infrastructure.

The goal of the Vermont Fibershed project is to be inclusive and to be a resource both for consumers and for Vermont’s natural fiber producers. Currently, we are building a directory of Vermont-based producers and processors – including VSGA members from bordering states. The next project will be to develop a list of resources that will include additional out-of-state processors, dye sources and more.
