Welcome to the Vermont Fibershed

What is a Fibershed?

A “fibershed” is a geographical region where natural fiber is produced, processed, worn and, ultimately, composted. Small natural fiber producers and processors are the building blocks of a regional fibershed

Our Mission

The mission of the Vermont Fibershed is to promote local natural fiber production and processing within the state and nearby region. We support sustainable practices that honor our land resources and New England’s historical contributions to textile production. Our goal is to link producers: from farmers to finished products to consumers at all levels.

Our immediate goal is to develop an online directory of fiber producers, processors, production weavers, knitters, felters, sewers, dyers and other makers as a networking guide within the local industry and for consumers of local natural fiber products.  The Vermont Fibershed website will include current educational opportunities, open farm and studio events, fairs and festivals.
